Insecurities

     Yesterday is a day to blog about. Everyone has insecurities and I am no exception. It seems like PMS and bloating trigger mine once in a while. Yesterday night I was getting ready for bed and could not stop looking at my calves. I was poking them and making faces of disappointment as well as complaining to my husband. Being the wonderful man he is he assured me that my calves are very feminine and small. I was on a rampage and new he was lying so I got out the measuring tape to prove it to him. After some careful measuring on his part, he had to concur that my calves are bigger than his. I should mention that he is really built and we measured other areas such as thighs, waist, biceps, hips ect and I am much smaller than him in all of those areas. What does this mean? It means I am not very well proportioned and if I kicked you in the face it would hurt really bad, much worse than someone with feminine calves kicking you in the face.

     Today I giggle that I was so silly and I realize that genetics have made calves slightly larger than most. 15 inches to be exact.


     These babies aren't mine, but they share similarities. I didn't want to shave my legs for a picture. It's only 20 degrees out! I need some insulation.

I want to lose this

One of the things I often hear people say is, "I want to lose this." This is said while pointing to some small area with a small amount of fat. I have heard it about a small stomach "pooch", perfectly normal arms, inner thighs and many more areas. Guess what? YOU CAN'T SPOT REDUCE. No matter how much you try, and how much you increase muscle in a specific area, you are not burning fat in a localized area. Your body stores and loses fat where it chooses. No more jiggle!

I don't hate this myth because it makes people focus on muscle training, because that is a great way to improve health. I hate hearing people say "I need to lose this" because they truly believe that they NEED to. But why? Is it so their arteries won't clog? Is it so they will reduce their risk for disease? Nope. People, mostly women, feel the need to fit into this body type that is neither healthy nor realistic. Women need that "pooch" when they nourish children and the same goes for the love handles. I'm not advertising obesity or being overweight. I am advertising health and listening to your body.

Stop looking at the one area where your body may not look like a Victoria Secret model. Instead, take a deep breath, thank your Heavenly Father for a body that carries you through your day in such a miraculous manner and try to forget about the one "imperfection" that doesn't harm your health.
